Accessibility at YOUTH 2019
We, your Design Team for Youth 2019, are so excited to see you all in Kansas City a few short months from now. As your Accessibility Ambassador, I want to personally tell you how excited I am to see YOUat YOUTH 2019. I have the privilege of working for and with you to ensure that YOUTH 2019 is accessible for everyone. In that vein, I hope you’ll take the time to be as honest and thorough on your registration as you can. I assure you that all information will be held in confidentiality and only accessed in order to ensure the best possible experience for you and others. I’d be thrilled to get to know you better and to understand how we can best serve you in all of your needs. Below you’ll find a few suggestions to help you while you are in Kansas City. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to contact the YOUTH 2019 office, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each of the hotels in the block for YOUTH 2019 (and a very large majority) others in Kansas City have rooms available that are accessible in accordance with the guidelines and regulations laid out in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). Some of the rooms have roll-in showers in the bathroom while others have bathtubs with grab bars. A majority of the ADA accessible rooms have two beds in the room, but not all. It is best to call the hotel directly and speak to a reservation specialist to explain your individual needs. This is the best way to ensure there are as few surprises as possible when you arrive in Kansas City. If you do arrive at your hotel and you find that your accommodations do not meet your needs, speak to the hotel front desk staff as soon as you can and they will do their best to make reasonable accommodations for you. This could include needing a room close to the elevators or removal/relocation of a particular piece of furniture in order to clear a path for you to be able to navigate freely throughout the room. Should you find that you need support advocating for your needs, please ask a volunteer to be put in contact with me, Phil Rogers- Accessibility Ambassador, and I will do my best to help you! The best practice here is clear and timely communication with your needs and as much grace and flexibility as possible.

Kansas City has a new streetcar that is ADA accessible. This is super exciting news! Perhaps almost as great is that it is FREE to ride between Union Station and the River Market (along Main Street)! Check out the website for more information on specifics on accessing the streetcar.
City buses (The Metro) are also equipped with lifts and securement straps for individuals using wheelchairs. The Metro and its routes, visit www.kcata.orgor call Metro Customer Service at 816-221-0660. A teletypewriter is available at 816-221-0380.

Convention Center and Municipal Auditorium
The vast majority of your time at YOUTH 2019 will be spent in these two buildings. The spaces used for Youth 2019 meet ADA compliance. Anyone needing access to wheelchair accessible seating, other limited-mobility seating, seating for individuals requiring sign language interpretation, or access to a room with a lower level of stimulation (lights and sound as well as crowd) should find a volunteer for YOUTH 2019 and ask for guidance to the appropriate accommodations. YOUTH 2019 will have reserved seating and space for individuals needing these accommodations. If you need assistance getting to your seat or you require extra time to access your seat, see a volunteer with the event and they will be happy to assist you. For more information about accessibility at the Convention Center, please see https://kcconvention.com/accessibility/
I am SO excited to see everyone in Kansas City this July 10-14
