“David danced.” Even if you’ve never seen Footloose you know that the Bible has characters who dance with joy before the Lord. Dance is also an activity that can showcase culture and personal expression. If you are someone who likes to move, join this workshop, lead by youth for youth to discover rhythm that moves you, and the meaningful connection to God that you can develop through movement. Dance should be fun, and this workshop really will be!
Sandra is a long-time member of Emmaus UMC in Albany, NY. The youth of Emmaus UMC are committed to serving their community through dance, education, and language training. The diversity of their church gives them ample opportunities to connect in many meaningful ways, particularly with immigrants and their first-generation children. “Being authentic is including everyone in God’s community!” If you were at YOUTH 2015 or 2011, you might have seen Emmaus youth dancing their way around Purdue or Orlando!
About Workshop Leaders:
Emmaus UMC has had a dance ministry called Guided Footsteps for 13 years. Sandra Allen has coordinated the program, but this is Youth lead. It’s not your typical liturgical dance, as we use Christian Hip-Hop music (think Kirk Franklin, Hillsong Young). Come join our talented Alumni Yvonne Amen and Aye Aye Aung who will be leading this workshop with energy and praise. Both young women were part of the group as youth and have come back from college to lead and mentor our younger youth. Bring water bottles if you have them and be prepared to move.
